Not many people would associate Zimbabwe with scuba diving, being a landlocked country. But this is a sport that is accessible to everyone in Zimbabwe. So if you’ve been wondering how you can become scuba diver, here’s a quick guide on how to get started.
There are diving schools in Harare, and can help you get your certification. PADI is the world’s leading scuba diving certification, and schools in Harare offer this certification, allowing you to dive anywhere in the world! To start with, you can obtain the PADI open water certification, which allows you to dive down up to 18m. In this article, I’ll give you breakdown on how you can become scuba diver!
1. Health and fitness requirements
You need to know how to swim! It is critical that you are able to tread water. If you’re not able to swim, then this is the first thing you need to learn. If you can swim but cannot tread water for a minimum of 15 minutes, then you need to work on your general fitness. If you have any heart conditions, you need to speak to your diving instructor to see if you’re a good candidate for diving.
2. The cost of learning how to dive
The Open water diving course is $400. This includes all your learning material, equipment and air fills. Contact us on admin@thingu.comor start a chat for updates on pricing.

4. Where to dive in Zimbabwe
The two main diving spots are Chinhoyi Caves and Mutorashanga Green Pool. There are no mermaids, so don’t worry! I’m a diver too, so feel free to ask me any questions.
Hi
I wanted to know if you do normal recreational dives. Not just lessons, I have my open water PADI and I am just keen for a dive?
If so please can you give me the info on the price and what days are the dives.
Thank you
Zoe
