Can’t get your friends to travel with you? Join a group trip!

How does the idea of meeting strangers through online platforms and going away on a group trip sound? Scary? Brave? Not everyone would be keen to take a chance on a group of strangers. But we did this weekend, and it’s the beginning of many more epic adventures with Tingu!

My biggest frustration when wanting to travel, is people’s inability to commit. Agreeing on a date can be a month-long affair. And then a budget, and then the activities. And finally, actually getting people to pay! Man, we’ve all been through it. And it is for this reason that I travelled solo so much. I didn’t want to miss out on life because other people did not want to travel when I wanted to. However, while it’s fun going out on your own, the best memories are those created with others, and that’s what our first experience this past weekend was about.

A group of driven women, each doing well in their own right, but each seeking to explore more of South Africa and Africa with like-minded people. Yeap, that was us! I was really nervous about putting the trip together, because you want to make sure everything is well-organised, and everyone has fun. It’s safe to say that everything went well and fun was had! The best part was, we each signed up as individuals, and by the end of the day, we all walked away as friends.

We went to Hartbeespoort, an hour’s drive away from Johannesburg. We checked out the Upside Down House, the Harties Dam Arch, Pretville and French Toast. I’ll have to say, it’s so annoying how long the queues at French Toast are for the picture with the Eiffel Tower. Be prepared to wait if you are going there hahaha! You can read my previous blog post if you want to plan a trip to these places. Alternatively, you can watch the vlog if you’d like to see what to expect for yourself! But the best piece of advice I can give you? Join a group trip! You’ll make new friends, and get to experience different things you might not have otherwise tried on your own.

If you’re keen to travel around South Africa and Africa in a group, then check out our upcoming group trips and sign up! Want to get to know your host? You can read more about me here! I can’t wait to travel with you!
